Oakland Raiders defensive tackle
Warren Sapp has been fined $75,000 for "physical and verbal actions toward game officials," Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting.
Sapp
received three unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars for one long, extended tirade toward the officials. He was ejected after the third.
Raiders defensive end
Derrick Burgess was fined $25,000 for verbal abuse of a game official during the same incident. Burgess got one unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, so it seems that $25,000 a pop is the going rate for unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for abusive behavior toward officials these days.
Sapp has had previous run-ins with the officials, but the fact that he wasn't
suspended indicates that the league's review of the videotape was, at worst, inconclusive about whether he actually shoved an official, which
Sapp has denied.
