Russell Holdout

So the number overall pick still is not signed. ESPN.com and Yahoosports.com hint that this could go into the regular season. The Raiders want to sign him the Al Davis way which got old in the 60s. Russell told the Raiders before the draft if this what you will pay me i won't play for you. What are the Raiders options can they trade him to someone who will play him. Baltimore and Atlanta seem like fits. And one more rumor would Minnestoda for Travis Jackson and a 1st round pick.

If he told the Raiders before the draft his salary demands then it doesn't matter about his selfishness which I don't really think he's being. Al Davis still thinks it's the 70s and wants to sign #1 picks overall to those type of contracts? Sorry Al, the bar has been raised good or bad and you have to deal with it like everyone else. Besides if you knew what Russell wanted in salary and you were not willing to pay it then you shouldn't have drafted him. Reminds me of when the Colts took Edgerrin James instead of Ricky Williams cuz they felt Williams would be unsignable. That's the kind of foresight the Raiders needed. What a joke the silver and black has become. Do they still use the slogan "Commitment To Excellence" cuz frankly I don't see that comitment anymore.

You misunderstand...all I said was how come every one jumped all over Brady Quinn and no one is jumping all over Russell?...Both issues are about a 1st round QB asking for more money than the team is willing to give.

It is different Quinn was 22nd pick in the draft who wants to be paid like a top 10 pick Russell is the number one pick who wants to be paid like it that is fair

Well, sadly, the first overall pick seems pretty much able to command his own price. Is this more of a case of Davis being stingy or Russell getting greedy? I haven't really heard what the prospective offers were - anyone know?

Well, we jumped over Quinn thinking he was asking for an insane amount of money, like $60 million over five years. When that turned out to not be the case, yeah, a lot of us were wrong about him. I really haven't been following the Russell negotiations too closely, because personally, I don't really care if he signs or he doesn't sign, unlike Quinn's case, where there's a part of me that really wants to see Cleveland do well.

I think that's got something to do with Russell being the #1 pick overall and Quinn slipping in the draft almost to the second round.
