After having passed on franchise QBs too many times, the Raiders finally got it right and selected Russell. He's exactly what they need; a talented and imposing franchise QB who can sling the ball to their somewhat decent receiving unit.
The free agency focus was obviously on addressing the offensive deficiencies as the defense was one of the best against the pass. Dominic Rhodes will bring immediate help to a running game which stalled often in 2006. Justin Griffith won't get many yards on the ground, but he is a highly reliable fullback who will open holes for Rhodes and Jordan. Their 2006 tight end unit didn't produce much, but it's hard to imagine Stewart or Wakefield will do anything substantially better.
