Re: NFL Draft: Raiders On The Clock

The biggest question that many fans are wondering is: will the Raiders take a quarterback with the first pick overall? If the Raiders do decide to go that route, it would help out immensely considering they were ranked 31st in 2006 in passing offense. That ranking should go to show new head coach Lane Kiffin that Aaron Brooks, Andrew Walter and Marques Tuiasosopo just are not cutting it.

A year ago the quarterbacks in Oakland threw 24 interceptions, the second most in the NFL. Their offensive line also led the league in sacks allowed with 72, which doesn't even count the times those quarterbacks were pressured. However, that is a separate argument for another time, as the Raiders have more holes than they can count.

Taking Huff in the 1st round is coming back to bite them hard...They got to go QB, though that won't cure their problems...The question then is, "will it be Quinn?"...or is that kid form LSU too good to pass up?

Sounds like Brady Quinn will be there late in the top 10 for Miami to possibly snatch him up. I don't think there's much of a question that Oakland will love to take the LSU QB.

It'll be Russell. He's the #1 QB on nearly all the draft boards, and Quinn's stock is falling fast.

Re: NFL Draft: Raiders On The Clock

It will be JaMarcus Russell. He has arguably the strongest arm in all of football, making him a perfect fit for the vertical attack that Al Davis loves. I like Russell, and have him rated before Quinn, but I still don't think he is the sure thing some have made him out to be. He has galactic potential, but he still needs to make some better decisions. He has improved every year at LSU however, so expecting him to do the same at the next level isn't too unreasonable.

Supposedly, Calvin Johnson ran a 4.33 in an individual workout in Orlando. As much as I love Calvin, and I've said before he is the perfect prospect, I don't necessarily believe that, but if he did we all know how much Al Davis is a sucker for speed, so I wouldn't rule him out either.

They could be losing Porter and Moss, and like you say, Davis loves speed, so... could happen.

Re: NFL Draft: Raiders On The Clock

I agree with some of the comments about Russell and Quinn. In my opinion, this is a weak quarterbacking class, with Russell being the best of the bunch. But rating him realistically, I think he'd be behind Young, Leinart and Cutler all if you combined the last two QB classes together. Davis really shot himself in the foot going for Huff last year instead of a QB, because the safety class this year is pretty strong while the QBs aren't.

I don't know Lefty, I would put Russell in the same boat as Young...talented with questions...Young was able to answer them...but you are looking at it post season, not pre-draft...when Young took a bath on the wonderlic etc he still had question marks...

Honestly, no... just judging each by what I saw, on the field, in the NCAA. Russell had a huge game against Notre Dame, no doubt, but few forget that he had some struggles throughout his career. Heck, it wasn't all that long ago that some fans and experts wanted him benched, and said he wasn't even the best QB on the Tigers roster. One game against a pretty poor Irish secondary doesn't change all that.

Yeah, but folks watching Young run said, "No way he can pull that crap in the NFL"...and then, well, he did...

Russell may suprise a few people...or be the next Ryan Leaf...but lets revisit in 9 months...

Fair enough. It's all speculation anyway... somewhere between educated guess and wild arse guess.
