Raiders cut Kerry Collins

Well, everyone saw this coming.

Quote:
The Oakland Raiders released quarterback Kerry Collins on Friday, an expected salary-cap move that got delayed five days after the NFL and its union postponed the start of free agency.

The Raiders had to make the tough decision on the fate of Collins, who knew his time was probably up with the Raiders because he would be too expensive. By releasing Collins, Oakland will save $9.2 million against the salary cap once bonuses are factored into the figures.
There was no doubt that Al Davis wanted to go in a different direction. The question is, what direction will that be -- Marques Tuiasosopo, Andrew Walter, Daunte Culpepper or someone else?

So Collins was not the answer in Oakland either?...next stop, Miami? Minnesota?, CFL? AFL?

The sad thing is, I think New York should've never given up on him. He played very well with the G-Men and probably should still be there. But in terms of where he goes next? I'd bet Minnesota, probably.

Re: Raiders cut Kerry Collins

I think if the Lions were smart they'd take a look at this guy. Collins has always been my favorite quarterback in the NFL. In fact, my whole fantasy draft strategy last year went into the toilet when he got drafted the pick before I was picking, but that's irrelevant. But Collins has always been one of the most accurate passers in the league, and I am surprised that people are willing to just toss him aside like he's yesterday's news.

Baltimore seems like a natural fit with Jim Fassel there. Remember, it was the Tom Coughlin regime that drafted Manning, not Fassel's. I read in another post that Kyle Boller seemed to have made strides towards the end of last season, but if you had the choice between a veteran Collins, and a young guy like Boller who may have been a mirage last year, who would you take?

Oh, man, talk about a brain dead moment! Totally forgot about Baltimore!

Fassel loves what Collins can do, and they are certainly in need of a new QB. The Ravens should definitely make a major push to sign him, and give him a crack at the starting job. I'm still not sold on Boller.

Collins is a guy that can throw the ball with a good line in front of him. He can't/shouldn't run whatsoever. He still throws one of the prettiest deep balls in the league.

How about as a backup for Brunell in Washington. He could step in as the starter in a heartbeat if he had to.

Also, if Drew Brees is not re-signed, San Diego would be a logical place for him. San Diego needs a veteran that could step in for Phillip Rivers. (With Brees, I really belive SD could compete for the Super Bowl. Why they're going with Rivers is beyond me).
