New coach will need more than X's and O's

WHOEVER WINDS up with the head coaching job for the Oakland Raiders needs to know a lot more letters than just X and O.
Just being a great offensive mind won't be enough to succeed within the organization's eccentric environment.

The new man needs to be a psychologist. He needs to be a motivator. He needs to be a facilitator. He needs to be a diplomat. He needs to be a thick-skinned individualist. He needs to be an evaluator on multiple levels. He needs to be a teacher. He needs to be a builder. He needs to be a salesman. He needs to a visionary.

He also needs to be a bit of a humorist, if only to maintain his own sanity.

Re: Raiders coaching search

Candidates right now include USC offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, current Oakland defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz, and Steeler assistants Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm. I've also heard Jeff Tedford, the Cal coach, associated with the job, but that's highly doubtful. Who do you think they should hire?

Re: Raiders coaching search

Why not bring Buddy Ryan out of retirement. He's the perfect coach for the Raiders.

Why doesn't Al Davis coach the dang team himself?

Re: Raiders coaching search

Well, another coach has turned Davis down. This time, it's USC's Steve Sarkisian, who withdrew his name from the running on Friday. "I thank them for their interest in me," Sarkisian reportedly said in a press release. "While the job was never offered to me, at this time in my career, I've told them I want to stay at USC. I strongly believe that the Raiders' job is a great opportunity for whomever their next head coach is going to be."

So now who in the world does Al Davis go after?

Re: Raiders coaching search

I don't see how anyone with an ounce of self respect would want to coach the Raiders.

Re: Raiders coaching search

I know Dennis Green wouldn't even interview for the Oakland job. That's harsh, man.
