Raiders between Jets and playoffs
Napa Valley Register, CA - 2 hours ago
The only thing standing between the Jets and the playoffs is the Raiders, who have struggled terribly in Art Shell’s return as coach.

“We definitely aren’t going to walk on that field expecting them to lay down,” linebacker Victor Hobson said. “They have a lot of pride.”

Oakland also has the extra motivation of having the chance to end things on a good note — and ruin New York’s postseason plans.

“It’s 60 minutes of fun,” Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp said. “It’s our last time around. We can have something good to write about and wake up in the new year with a good feeling or taste in your mouth, other than the champagne, which will be dry.”

The Raiders are ranked last in total offense and have scored just 165 points through 15 games, the only team in the NFL under 200. They are almost assured of having the fewest points in franchise history; the 1962 team scored 213 points in 14 games.

Adding to the misery, both quarterback Aaron Brooks (neck) and receiver Randy Moss (ankle) — two of Oakland’s few weapons — might miss the regular-season finale.

“We keep stubbing our toes with mistakes in crucial situations, and when you do that you don’t have a chance to win because you don’t get enough points on the board,” Shell said. “That’s been a frustrating thing for us.”

Oakland, with its top-ranked passing defense, could provide a challenge to New York. The Jets have struggled all season to establish a consistent running game, and might need to get something going on the ground today if they are to have success in the air.

Re: Raiders looking to play spoiler vs. Jets

The only, and I mean, ONLY way Oakland wins is if their defense can outscore the Jets offense. I really don't see that happening. What does everyone else think? Do the Raiders have a shot in this one?
