Raiders are just plain sad

I had a hard time believing that the Raiders could ever have rehired Art Shell. Now I am sitting here watching them and I cannot comprehend what I am seeing. Five sacks in the first quarter allowed, three in a row on one series. Then they had Seattle in a 4th and 24, kicking a field goal, and committed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty to hand them a first down. It's time to put Al Davis in a home and start over. Incredible to see this once most feared of football franchises reduced to perhaps the biggest laughingstock in all of pro sports-well except for the Knicks.

Re: Raiders are just plain sad

Heard on Mike & Mike today that Oakland couldn't even muster 50 yards of total offense in the first half. Hell, I can think of a dozen or so college teams that probably would've been able to gain 50 yards in a half, even against an NFL defense. Words can't describe their ineptitude.

Shell stands on the sidleines writing things down. The only highlight of the game was when the offensive lineman kneed that idiot Jeremy Stevens in the groin.

I can see the debate over the highlight reel...

First Editor: We can't use the Kneeing incident...

Second Editor: Well, we got another 25 minutes to kill, and we have all the shots of Al Davis, Randy Moss and the cheerleaders we can use...what do you suggest?

Re: Raiders are just plain sad

They had about three minutes worth of sacks on the Oakland QB to choose from as well. If anything, don't you think a Hall of Fame offensive lineman could coach the offesnive line?

What would be the point of firing Art Shell? Whoever Davis hired to replace him would still have to be a yes man willing to run the same offense, and the personnel would still be the same, meaning the result would largely be the same. The problem goes much, much deeper than the coach -- they need better players, and they need an owner who's willing to let the coaches he hire run their own schemes and bring in their own guys.

Well, Al can cut out the middle man and run his own team, after all, its his fault they went for Huff in the first round.

Cool Re: Raiders are just plain sad

Was Shell that bad a coach? He led Oakland to the championship game in the early 90's didn't he?
