We all suspected as much, but now it seems to be official. The reason why so many coaching candidates, including Steeler offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, turned down the Raiders this year was because of Al Davis' insistance on having input on the team.

In fact, both ESPN and NFL Network have reported that Davis not only refused to guarantee Whisenhunt control over personnel decisions, but also over HIS OWN COACHING STAFF!

I guess Davis must have wanted to hand-pick the coordinators or something. How crazy is that? I mean, what's the point of even hiring a head coach if you, as the owner, want to dictate the type of offense and defense you want to run.

Come on, Davis, just drop the pretense and coach the daggone team yourself already!
