Oakland claimed outfielder Kevin Thompson off waivers from the New York Yankees on Friday.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Thompson, the A's transferred outfielder Travis Buck from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Thompson batted .190 (4-for-21) with two RBIs in two stints with the Yankees this season before being designated for assignment on Sept. 1.
