Cool Barry Zito

Have we seen enough the last 3 years? Can we say Barry Zito is not the pitcher he once was? I am. It's not one off year. He's been mediocre for a while now. One good game, one bad game. The Yankees used to have a pitcher like this: Shane Rawley.

Cool Re: Barry Zito

I know. It was just an analogy for illustrative purposes. Zito should be having 2 or 3 good games - then 1 bad one. Not 1 and 1.

Re: Barry Zito

There are rumours that the Yanks might try to sign Zito, and carry the tradition of signing older, worn-out pitchers to giant, multi-million dollar contracts.

Cool Re: Barry Zito

Come no MVB...Zito is worth a look...I would sign him to a year or two...beats what they got going...and soooo much younger...maybe not the Cy Young candidate he once was...but wouldn't make for a bad 3rd or 4th starter...

Re: Barry Zito

He beats what they got going??? Johnson is better than Zito. Mussina is WAY better than Zito. Chacon is better than Zito. Wang is better than Zito. Wright and Zito are about the same... Remember, this is the guy we clobbered 17 to 3 in the season opener! He doesn't pitch well against other AL East teams, and he's very up and down. You know the Yanks will over pay for him, and he will not live up to any sort of expectations!

Aaah, my delusional friend...Zito has actually pitched well since that start including a good game against the Yankees of late...he is 2-3 but with a 3.75 ERA (even factoring in the season opener)...his K's, ERA, and Whip are also better than Wang, his last three starts have been better than Chacon, and we are not even going to talk about Johnson's or his 13 Earn Runs to Zito's 2 over the last three games...only Mussina has really been a better pitcher...

Look I am all for you being loyal to your Yankee team...but to say the Yankees couldn't use Zito is to be in denial of what is going on in New York...But hey, I am not one to get in the one of a man's delusions...continue with your dream....and isn't over paying par for the course for the Bronx Bombers???....

Re: Barry Zito

Yes, well everytime ( over the last three years or so) we sign a good pitcher ( like Johnson and Pavano who were both better than Zito), that pitcher then loses his talent. If we sign Zito, he'll break his arm or something.... or just do what Johnson is doing, failing to live up to expectations. Yankee starting pitching is 19-9! Why mess with it? Chacon has been great (4-1), Mussina has been great (6-1), and Wang is doing well (3-1, last time out an 8 inning shutout). If you want to trade Johnson for Zito, it won't happen... ( plus, that's not the best move anyway) Unless we can get rid of Wright and replace him with Zito as our number 5 starter, Zito will be useless to the Yanks.

MVB, I hear you brother...but I am a guts feel kinda guy...I see 19-9 and I am thinking....math wise they are done!...they peaked...time to trade...its the Fantasy Baseball GM mentality in me...I see Zito at 2-3 and pitching well and I am thinking he is due...I personally like Johnson even with a few miles off his fastball...Chacon walks too many batters and Wang is up and coming but not there yet...and yeah, I wasn't even going to mention Wright...I think you are being a bit harsh on my man Zito...we will see how the season plays out...
