Re: Barry Zito

I still doubt Zito will be traded by the end of the month but more and more reports come out that his name is being talked about.

In the off-season, it's said he'll only look into LA or NY and for big money so that's why I'm doubting he'll be traded.

Same reason they didn't end up trading Tejada or Giambi. They're in the middle of a pennant race and Zito is still a great pitcher.

Re: Barry Zito

I read yesterday that the A's already have his scheduled starts mapped out for the rest of the season. Zito's not going anywhere.

Re: Barry Zito

Sure enough, its now August and Zito is still a member of the Oakland A's. According to the Oakland Tribune, "Zito wasn't fazed by the trade rumors this year, or last winter, or the year before that, so his reaction to officially remaining with the A's was about what you would expect." Which is to say, he wasn't surprised in the least. Now, can he help lead the Athletics into the postseason?

Re: Barry Zito

Whether or not the A's make the playoffs, I'd say they're not as good as the past A's team in recent years to make it. That's to say I wouldn't expect them making much noise in October. Then Zito will go into free-agency led by Scott Boras and cash in his free-agency check for mucho mucho dinero.

Which of course means he will be wearing pinstripes soon enough...If Boras is going to hit a bank...he's going to hit the biggest bank of all...

Cool Re: Barry Zito

If Zito were to be traded, that would be terrible for baseball. Unless of course they got back equal value.

Zito will look to New York or California, I believe. The Yankees, Mets, Angels or Dodgers will land him for a lot of money.

And I think the Mets will ante up what it takes. The Mets need a starter more than any of these other teams.

These are the kid of things that would make a salary cap interesting...Instead of the same old teams getting the talents...we might be saying, the guy can be a Marlin or a Royal cause they have cap room.

Re: Barry Zito

Well the Mets will have plenty of space come the off-season. Cliff Floyd and Steve Trachsel will come off the books. Nobody knows what's with Glavine's contract.

I'm almost certain Zito will be on a New York team next year.

Re: Barry Zito

As we all learned in the past two years, Omar Minaya can make stuff happen.

Barry Zito, welcome to Flushing, New York!
