Cool A's shopping Piazza

Quote:
Scouts have checked out Oakland Athletics catcher/DH Mike Piazza at batting practice recently and it's possible that some clubs, such as the Minnesota Twins and the New York Yankees, might take a look at Piazza

The Yankees? How many DH's do they need? Piazza and Clemens in the same clubhouse would be worth watching, though.

Re: A's shopping Piazza

That would be great. They would probably get another $1 million each to pretend to like each other.

Cool Re: A's shopping Piazza

It's funny. Nobody likes Clemens when you play against him (Derek Jeter). Then when you play behind him, you love the guy.

Cool Re: A's shopping Piazza

With Kendall gone, Piazza is probably off the block, temporarily.

Cool Re: A's shopping Piazza

From CBS sportsline:
Quote:
Piazza returns in the middle of his second longest homerless streak. Since hitting a home run on April 5, he's gone 22 games and 86 at-bats without going deep. He went 27 games and 98 at-bats without a homer with the New York Mets during the 2005 season.
Come to think of it, why would anybody want him? He should just retire, already.

That is what I was thinking. He has been on the block for a while and I haven't even heard a rumor of him going anywhere. He may have no choice, but to quit after the season.

Shame, a Hall of Famer should be able to walk out with a bit more grace...

Re: A's shopping Piazza

Too many guys like this hang on for too long. He was never a great catcher anyway, and now that his hitting's going? He's a no-tool player.

Mike Piazza, who has homered in 40 major league stadiums, made his Comerica Park debut Saturday, striking out in the eighth inning as a pinch-hitter.

With the A's anemic offense, why isn't Piazza in the lineup? He can't DH?

Re: A's shopping Piazza

He's just one more guy smart enough to know that someone will pay him for what he's done in the past. This time it was the genius who has never won anything, Billy Beane.

Cool Re: A's shopping Piazza

He was one hit short of the cycle last night ( a double). I bet you he ends up on the Angels.

Cool Re: A's shopping Piazza

The man has been really hot. I'm shocked the Angels haven't acquired him yet.

Will he get traded by the 31st?
