Athletics could sign Rickey Henderson

Oakland GM Billy Beane is considering offering a contract to former Athletics OF Rickey Henderson. According to ESPN.com, "For the first time, Beane said Thursday he might give the 48-year-old Henderson the opportunity to retire in an A's uniform, likely when rosters expand in September, the San Francisco Chronicle reported... According to the Chronicle, A's officials do not want to be in the position of bringing Henderson back for one final game only to have him then insist he should remain on the roster for the rest of the season." So, what do you think? This doesn't sound like what Rickey wants. I got the impression he wanted a full comeback.

Well, as much as l like Rickey, he does have a tiny bit of a problem doing things with an air of class...anyone remember when he broke the lifetime steal record and declared himself the greatest?...Skills fade, 48 is 48...time to step down and do it with a bit of grace.

I'm sure he is thinking that he will be a rich fool when he is drum rolled out for hopefully the last time.

He'll be lucky to crack .200 batting average.

He can't be any good, and I could only see him as a DH or back-up CF.

Cool Re: Athletics could sign Rickey Henderson

Every year he hangs on, that's another year, his HOF entry is delayed.

I guess he doesn't care. He must really love playing.
