From the AP, Athletic's GM Billy Beane has contacted Barry Bonds' agent to seemingly gauge interest. Since Frank Thomas just signed with the Blue Jays, the Athletics are in need of a powerful designated hitter.

And the more time passes, the more it seems Bonds won't return to San Francisco.

Will the Athletics target Bonds and should they?

Where does a guy like Barry Bonds fit into their "Moneyball" approach, I wonder? He's got to command a huge salary, and he'd just DH. Can't imagine his value would be considered too great. But I definitely think he's well suited to becoming a designated hitter, and with the A's he wouldn't have to move too far, so I can see where it might interest him.
