Earlier in the week, the Oakland Athletics announced their new manager as former bench coach Bob Geren.

Geren was a catcher in the major leagues and was apart of the last two coaching staff's in Oakland, under Art Howe and Ken Macha. He has managed in the minor leagues before and in 1999 won the Single-A Manager of the Year Award for their league.

He is just 45-years old.

So Oakland fans, like the move? Hate it?

I personally think it's a "give up" hire. Yes, he's won a minor league manager of the year award. But he was one of Macha's coaches. Oakland didn't go in any radical new direction. They didn't bring in new leadership. So, if the A's brass want someone who's just going to carry on and not reinvent, why not just keep Macha?

Exactly, why not just keep Macha? He's proven that he can win and take his team to the postseason... With Macha, at least you have the major league experience, I doubt Geren is going to be much different then Macha in Oakland's '07 season.

I don't know is personality but he's in the old Nintendo baseball game from the late 80's. He split time with Matt Nokes at catcher for the Yankees in those days.
