ND Football Recruiting 2006

Greetings!

How did Notre Dames recruiting class look for 2006? From what the experts are saying it was a top 5 class. Can anyone confirm that?

Also, are any of these guys gonna play immediately? I know ND is pretty well loaded for 06, but could they use any immediate help anywhere?

Rivals.com has them ranked at No. 8 in the nation. They got two guys to really watch out for this year -- James Aldridge, the third-ranked RB in the country, and Sam Young, the top-rated OT. Young is a 6-8, 300-plus pounder from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, while Aldridge is a 215-pounder from Indiana who can run a 4.45 40. Expect big things from them down the road, if not immediately.

Lefty,

That is exactly what I saw on a couple of other boards as well. I believe scout.com had them at somewhere around 5 in the country. Being that they have a whole boat load of talent coming back I am not sure if any of these guys will make an immediate impact, but like you said I am sure they will make some noise down the road.

Notre Dame has a definite shot at the title next year even without the addition of any of these guys from the class of 06.

USAToday has them at #11.

They're gonna win some games this year. Don't forget how close they came to beating the almost 3 time national champions.

Not sure how much stock I put in that USA Today ranking, though. They have Florida all the way down at 16th while both Rivals.com has them No. 2 and Scout.com has them at No. 1. QB Tim Tebow and WR Percy Harvin alone seem to justify at least a top 10 rating, don't you think? So what I'm saying is, USA Today has both Notre Dame and Florida ranked too low, if you ask me.

I am not sure how much stock I put into any of these ratings.

Take West Virginia for example. Last year they got one of the top rbs in the country in Jason Gwaltney. WVU beat out USC and Ohio State for him. Gwaltney ended up gaining about 200 yards through the first half of the season, then he got injured and ended up quitting the team.

On the other hand unheralded true freshman rb Steve Slaton ended up running for more than 1000 yards in 8 or 9 games, including a six td performance against Louisville. To keep things in perspective Slaton was recruited very hard by Maryland, who wanted him to play db.

I just dont agree with the "star rating systems". But I guess these so called experts need something to do every year...
