6-foot-7, 255-pound Clemson tight end Jamie Cumbie is accusing Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis of negative recruiting, telling a Charleston, South Carolina newspaper "The coaches at Notre Dame sent some bad letters ripping Clemson after I committed here... Then they said Clemson has a horrible education." Cumbie and Clemson have since issued a "he was misquoted" denial, so it looks like Weis may be innocent of these charges. What are your thoughts on this?

Would a top program coach such as ND's Weis be so stupid as to put something like that on paper? I'd expect not.

Easier to believe something like that was said verbally. More likely that it wasn't said directly but maybe the point was interpreted that way by Jamie Cumbie.

Man, I like to believe it, but that's a bold all around statement...what is it based on?...and why would Crumbie and Clemson make the charges?...It has to stem from something...

I'd tend to agree with Ross that Notre Dame wouldn't be stupid enough to put such comments on paper. I'd like to think Charlie Weis is better than to talk badly about other school programs to potential recruits but you never know.

Nope not proven guilty, but you gave a blanket testimonial there hoss...and usually the truth lies somewhere in the middle...I don't think either side is squeaky clean...unless there is motive on the side of the kid wanting to get back at the Irish which I do not see...

I kinda like listening to both sides before I issue a blank statement of quilt or innocent...don't you?
