Re: Notre Dame vs. Ohio State BCS title game?

According to this article, taking and compiling the average ranking of some of the nation's top college football preview publications (Lindy's, The Sporting News, Athlon Sports, Street & Smith's and CBS Sportsline) shows Ohio State and Notre Dame ranked #1 & #2 respectively.

"Remember this past season's Fiesta Bowl?" the article asks. "The Buckeyes beat the Fighting Irish 34-20 in a highly entertaining game... According to the magazines, that could've been a preview of this season's national championship game." Neither team was ranked any lower than 4th in any publication.

So, might the 2007 BCS title game feature the Fighting Irish and the Buckeyes?

It could definitely be so! The Buckeyes lost A.J. Hawk, but return all of the offensive stars who gave the Irish so much trouble in the Fiesta Bowl. We'll get a chance to see how good Ohio State is early when they go down to visit the Texas Longhorns in the second game of the season. If there is a rematch, bottom line, I don't think the Irish can stop the Buckeye offense (team speed is a problem)--but without Hawk, neither can the Bucks stop Brady Quinn and company. Prediction: The Irish win a wild one, 42-35.

OSU did lose not only Hawk, but Carpenter and Whitner. You may just be right about the Irish, Mr. Murray. Quinn and company could take advantage of the depleted Buckeyes D. But then, I guess we're getting ahead of ourselves... both teams gotta get there first, right? What do you think are the biggest possible pitfalls for each team -- a particular position deficiency, an opponent, coaching, something else maybe?

Notre Dame's toughest challenge during the regular season will be Michigan. I think that Ohio State and Texas will bea heck of a game again, but there is no Vince Young to bail Texas out any more. Does Ohio State play the Badgers? Notre Dame's D will be much improved this year and surprise all the haters.
