I knew that newly recruited Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen was a good one coming in, but he may be better than any of us thought. Scout.com has Clausen rated as the #1 QB recruit in the country right now.

"Clausen is a drop-back passer who is very polished and advanced at this stage of his young football career. He has good size, mobility and very good arm strength," the talent evaluation website reports, adding that he "can throw with a ton of velocity and is deadly accurate... Clausen has an exceptional release and can make all the throws you look for — the deep out, the long ball, etc."

If Quinn does leave at the end of this year as expected, do you think this kid Clausen will be ready to step right in and take over in 2007?

He's related to the other Clausens, Tennessee QBs Casey and Rick, for what that's worth. I think his family might also be in the pickle business, but maybe I'm wrong about that one...
