SOUTH BEND, Ind. - You have to consider the source, and his plainly transparent motivation. But Notre Dame coach Mike Brey says there are times when his team's offense is so fluid, so blissfully unselfish and productive, that he would buy a ticket to watch a practice.

On Wednesday, that dough would have been better spent on a plastic surgeon, or at least a carton of Bactine. The No. 19 Irish emerged with a 68-55 victory over St. John's at the Joyce Center that was as pretty as a car wreck, though the visitors bore primary responsibility for that.

"There was blood everywhere," Irish guard Tory Jackson said. "But we bounce back from things like that because that's the Big East. We beat each other up and the tougher team is going to win."
