SOUTH BEND, Ind. - As the new year approached, four games were crammed into seven days, including Notre Dame's first two Big East trials. To foster a short-term, compartmentalized psychological focus, coach Mike Brey dangled this idea before his team: One week to make a move.

No one said a good chestnut can't be re-roasted. So this week, Brey was asked if he might reapply that theme given the Irish's imminent schedule: Three winnable games to follow last weekend's victory at Villanova, a chance to get to seven conference victories barely into February.
