It seems the popular passtime right now for Notre Dame sports fans is kvetching about the football team and coaching staff. Face the fact that it's not going to be a winning year in football, and may well be one of the school's worst records ever. If you want to have something exciting to cheer for during the 2007-2008 school year, get to know the ND baseball players, and let them know they have your support.
Come out and watch a practice. For sure, come out next month and fill the stands during the Blue/Gold intrasquad series. Pick a player - any player - and root for him. Let these youngsters know the alums and fans care about how hard they play and how well they are preparing for February. Let Coach Schrage, Coach Lawler, Coach Clinkscales and Coach Sikes know that fans and alums have expectations for a better season than last year, and that we will come out and support them from start to finish.
Let the players know they have backers and that we appreciate all the effort they put in during the fall and winter to hone their skills and compete for starting spots on a team with a lot of job openings. Get to know the boys so when they start playing at home in South Bend next March there are more familiar friendly faces in the stands than just their parents and girlfriends. Stop kvetching about football just long enough to get involved in something where fan support can have an immediate impact this year, creating a top notch team in at least one sport ND can be proud of right away.
Thank you all for your support.
