I realize it's fun to bash the football coach and gossip about the football players on a team struggling to recover from a miserable start to the season. All of this could have been predicted if anoyne watched the practices over the last several months.

Baseball practice is underway, with a roster of 43 returning players, transfers and frosh recruits which will have to be cut to 35 under the new NCAA limits before the first game in February. Hopefully all the football controversy is not distracting these young men from developing some team cohesion and focusing on the basics so the unfortunate team performance of last spring is not repeated. Let's support coach Schrage and his staff and team, starting with the October alumni game before the football game October 13. Support for events such as this will demonstrate that the school and the alums are behind our boys of summer even though the gridiron crew may be struggling. The inspiration of returning college world series alums won't amount to much if no one comes out to see them play.
