Fire Charlie Weis!

This overweight overbearing Phillip Fulmer twin can't coach and can't recruit. What a shame that a program with thousands of recruiters [priests] can't put the best team in the USA on the field. Tyrone Willingham should still be there based on this kind of coaching.

Team has no running game, no offensive line, and apparently no true #1 quarterback. Going to be a long year in South Bend!

Like I said FIRE THE BUM! He has to know this is his fault and his alone. This is as bad or worse than Michigan come to think of it that will be a game to forget.

No way this is as bad as the Michigan loss. Georgia Tech is a good team, real contenders in the ACC. Let's not hang Weis from the tallest tree just yet.

Re: Fire Charlie Weis!

The Irish just are not as good as their recent teams. They lost Brady Quinn, so of course they will go through some rough times. How they bounce back next week will tell a lot as far as Weis.

At least two seasons. Come on, it's a rebuilding year. They lost everyone from the skill positions and the o-line stinks. Clausen will be the man but he's not quite ready yet. They need to find some more talent around him (RB particularly), but at least the defense seems to be better. Not looking at the final score, because they were on the field so much and got wore out, but I was impressed on the whole with their first-half effort.

Re: Fire Charlie Weis!

Jesus you guys, it's the first game of the season and there are a lot of contributing factors that are going to make this an unpleasant season for us Irish fans- Suck it up, all the blame cannot be put on Charlie.

Basically he is having to start from scratch people! Not only did we lose Brady, we also lost our RB AND the best WR in school history!! This is a transitional period for us, we're gonna have to find our chemistry and it's gonna take a while.
Notre Dame has always and will always be one of the most prestigious names in college football- We have more rings and more folk lore (ie the horsemen etc) than any other college in the country. Be proud of that.

I've been an irish fan all my life, my grandfather went to school there and even though I was raised in New England, ND has ALWAYS been my team. I've endured the heartache of also being a Red Sox and a Patriots fan all my life, so I know about dealing with loss.
Incidentally, have you forgotten the superbowl rings that grace Charlie's fingers?! The man can get it done, all the pieces have to be there. He's proven that.

Georgia Tech is a good team even though they are unranked, they definitely have a shot at the ACC title. If you want to piss and moan about our loss (even though it was the worst opening day loss in our history) think about how Michigan fans feel. They lost to who?!! A FRIGGIN division 1 double A team!! Who the hell is Appalachian State?! Now THAT'S something to piss and moan about!!

In closing, I've prepared myself, it's going to be a rough season. But lets not send him to the gallows just yet, it's probably going to take a few seasons to get things rolling. It's a shame Charlie wasn't brought in sooner, I think if he was here 4 years ago we would have a national title by now with the guys that just left.

Re: Fire Charlie Weis!

Welcome to GoteamsGo, and well stated, Lindsay. I'm sure there are fans who are unhappy with Weis (for the record, I think he started the wrong QB). But the running game and the pass protection were both nonexistant, and I think most of the finger pointing needs to be done towards the offensive line. -8 yards rushing and 9 sacks allowed is unforgivable - changes need to be made on that unit, but it's way too soon to even think about pulling the trigger on Weis.

Re: Fire Charlie Weis!

Thanks Lefty...
By the stats the running game was LESS than non-existant lol
Nine sacks was unforgivable, it's like the O-Line was just standing around with their fingers up their you know whats. Charlie did start the wrong QB but I do believe we all know out of the three who was the most effective and I'm sure we'll see him start next week.

Next week against Penn State is not going to be pretty I'm sure, but hopefully we'll put up some better numbers and be a bit more effective on the ground.
We don't have an easy schedule.. we've got major rivalries against some other big name teams coming up and I'm sure it's going to be as I said a rough season for the Irish Nation..we just have to be patient! It'll come together, it's just going to take some time unfortunately

Re: Fire Charlie Weis!

well said irisheyes. Weis doesn't need to get all the blame, but as for play calling against GT, he does need the lion's share of the blame. and despite the rings and the yada yada, people so soon forget that weis is a third-year head coach. not at notre dame, just in general. he started out with two 9-3 seasons, and two BCS bowls. sure they lost, and maybe it wasn't deserved, but those records don't lie. and the people saying Willingham should still be there have to stop. Ty should never have been hired. he came in with a completely mediocre record and no history of big time success in ANY WAY. weis needs to be held accountable, but also given a little more time. it's a fine line, i understand that. to say he can't recruit is the DUMBEST thing i have ever heard. look at notre dame's recruiting classes under weis compared to Ty. that should stop that debate. think Ty ever had the #1 recruit in the country? not even close. weis needs to show improvement every week, and start winning the games they should win in a comfortable fashion. the irish will be fine, but it's gonna be hard for the instant-gratification types.

Angry Re: Fire Charlie Weis!

HE AS WELL AS EVERY COACH SINCE HOLTZ IS AN IDIOT. PLAY CALLING HAS BEEN ABYSMAL.... bottom line currently for the Offensive Genius... 11 QTRS NO TOUCHDOWN - case closed.

GT- 1st game - uncertainty by headcoach leads to uncertaintly to the team and it showed... great coaching!

I don't want to hear 3 Superbowls... they keep the same personnel year in and year out...and thus he doesn't have to keep teaching...and he's also given ton's of assistance and direction by the HEAD COACH. Now he's the head coach and it show's... no organization, horrible play calling, no running game, no defense, absolutely nothing... at the very least give a glimpse of at least someone on the same page....

This guy needs to get his can kicked back to the NFL quickly! His so called #1 recruiting class is going to dissolve quickly in the next few months as ND sinks further into laughing stock status. Weis I'm sorry is a HUGE JOKE.

FUTURE ND COACHES NEED TO REALIZE:

1. DEFENSE - even Holtz had a hard time with that one...but when he did have one he one a CHAMPIONSHIP! He had a 2nd one taken away from him by the bozo loss to Boston College.
2. RUSHING
3. OFFENSIVE SYSTEM - that a coach has to realize they will never match up with the speed at USC/Florida/LSU and other's consistently - every once in a decade MAYBE but consistently no way.... THUS THEY NEED A SYSTEM THAT NEUTRALIZES THIS IMBALANCE - PERIOD. Holtz did this with the option... there are other offenses that neutralize...the future coach needs to implement one...

Re: Fire Charlie Weis!

Like it or not, this is a rebuilding year for the Irish. They lose half their offense not to mention offensive line and people expect miracles. Charlie will make some adjustments and the team will start to turn around. Will they have a winning season? Hopefully (doubtful), but they will have a learning year. The unfortunate part of this is that it will hurt their recruiting. Be patient and let them rebuild.

Angry Re: Fire Charlie Weis!

This is so bad, there is no talent on that field. No Speed, No Insticts, No Guts and most importantly NO COACHING. Not just Charlie Wies but you need to look at firing the whole staff.

Jones was smart to transfer to NIU today, at least he will go to a winning program. Three recruiting classes and this is what they are left with. Total points EVER scored by a Weis recruit, 7 that is it for every single player he has ever recruited.

When would be a time when ND is the WORST team in America, well that time is now!
