The core to ANY good football team starts with the OFFENSIVE LINE! Notre Dame's offensive players are not stepping up to the plate. Maybe because they are not as talented and athletic as their predecessors. Charlie needs to start at the basics - they are having trouble with simple execution such as power blocking. This is Football 101. However, the respect for Notre Dame's history and reputation should be enough to inspire any player no matter what their talent level. In addition, the team has no speed compared to "fast teams" such as LSU, Florida State, USC or Florida. Their next 5 games are going to be difficult. Those ACC and SEC teams have speed at every level! In conclusion... Tyrone Willingham should have been given more time to build a good program at Notre Dame. He was shown the door too soon! |

| Re: Fire Charlie Weis! Mike is absolutely correct. This is Weis's third year at the helm of the Irish, the same year Holtz and previous coaches have won NC's, and look what Weis has done! He has had three years to develop his talent and program and the results are worst than Willingham's ever were. The only success Weis has had is with Willingham's recuits and he didn't develop them, they just came into their own through age and game experience. In the meantime Weis put his effort into recruiting rather than developing talent. He thinks ND is Michigan or USC where the talent exceeds the coaching ability but still allows these coaches to produce "W's" IMHO. I suppose we will all hear how it is Willingham's fault and not about the lack of development of the talent Weis inherited or brought in as the head coach. If it weren't for Willingham's recruiting and talent Weis wouldn't have been successful in his first two years. Furthermore, the talent was there but Weis chased it out by his behavior and BS atttitude towards youthful players he wasn't use to dealing with. That's why 11 of 17? of the 2004 left the team including some who were playing along with others from other years. Ya, all the ND fanatics defended Weis's filthy mouth, his rude behavior, and treatment of the players upon his arrival and how this "Offensive Genius" was going to "Return to Glory" the Irish program. Well, look at what we have presently. I would suspect that many who read this post will come to the conclusion that I would support Charlie's firing---but I DON'T! While I think Willingham was let go prior to having the opportunity to develop his program, which Weis benefited from the past two years, I don't think a coach, nowadays, at any program like ND's can establish his real presence with less than five years. So, if Weis can show improvement next year, his fourth with his recruits, then I would support a fifth year only with the guarrantee that improvement following would be significant. If not, then Weis isn't worth the 4 million plus he is costing the Irish and should be fired! |

| Re: Fire Charlie Weis! Willingham was canned in year three with Bob Davie's terrible recruits. Now is the time to fire the chubby coach. If he is such the offensive guru everyone says why do they not have an offensive TD? That's just plain offensive. Jimmy should have stayed home. At least he would have an O-line that will provide protection. October 20, 2007 is looking like a gimme now. And remember ND fans, Booty! Booty! Booty! |

| Re: Fire Charlie Weis! Well, I've always felt he got a raw deal, but the past is the past and hindsight is always 20-20. Weis is the guy the Irish are dancing with now, so they'd better just try to make the best out of the current situation. He's obviously at least a good offensive gameplanner... I think he needs to surround himself with better position coaches, though.

| Re: Fire Charlie Weis! It's not so bad. I just watched #1 Notre Dame beat #2 Michigan. Ismail ran two kick offs back for touchdowns, and Lou paced up and down the sideline. It was great. Unfortunately, you have to watch the Classic Channel. Are you kidding me? Charlie makes Gerry look like Ara. I say bring back Faust. Don't tell me that Notre Dame lost talent from last year. Charlie must know that the kids are there for four years at the most. Doesn't USC operate under the same rules? What's going on? |

| Re: Fire Charlie Weis! I totally agree! Why did we fire Tye? I'll tell you why, we thought we could get Urban and to do that we had to get rid of Tye! It's nice to see we have joined the ranks of college football's big business. Problem is we made a bad business deal and now we're going to be paying for it for a long time! What really ticks me off are the people who say that Charlie is still dealing with Tye's leftovers! Come on!!! Charlie's first year on the scene was almost completely Tye's team, great record; second year Tye's team but more of Charlie, worse record; this year almost all Charlie's team, results: Worse start in Notre Dame HISTORY!!!! The guys full of crap and I say ship the bum back to NE where maybe he can help Billy B. with his video career! |
