| Re: Notre Dame honors ailing Duranko For those who don't know, Pete Duranko was a defensive lineman on the 1966 national championship team and a former All-American. Now 62, he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in 2000. He's still active working for various charitable organizations, though. This weekend, he will serve as an honorary captain for the Irish's annual spring football game, and there will be a tribute dinner afterwards.
