The Notre Dame football team is NOT overrated after all.

This news comes according to Mark Schlabach of ESPN.com, who writes, "Notre Dame, which long ago earned the reputation of being overhyped, wasn't among the top 10 overrated teams during the last 10 years. In fact, the aforementioned national champions, as well as 2003 co-champion LSU, were more overrated than the Fighting Irish in that time span. Although Notre Dame has failed to live up to lofty preseason rankings five times in the last 10 years, it also rose from unranked to ranked three times, finishing No. 15 in 2000, No. 17 in 2002 and No. 9 in 2005."

Well, do you count how they have done in Bowl games?...Cause if you do, then they are overrated.

See, I think there are years where they have been overrated, and there are years where they have been underrated. It all depends how you look at things. The hype about how good they are how bad they are, it swings too far in either direction always. Because they're Notre Dame.

MOST schools that graduate a very high % of their football & basketball team members do not have much success........if you look up N.D.'s graduation #s and add in their schedule over the years,they should be underrated...

Salsenior, you make a very valid point! My question is: How many of you ND fans think it is time for the Irish to consider HIGHLY ACADEMICALLY QUALIFIED JC transferS in the future? Remember, this is what Urban Meyers wanted when he was offered the helm for the Irish and declined the position.

i do not think the powers that be want to change any thing ... everybody must remember these are SCHOOLS...not football clubs...lower institutes of learning [8th grade for instance] have lower the bar so that who was a dummy 20 yrs ago is now passed along..this is a serious problem with education......to lower a standard for a better football team is not in nd,s plan ,i hope.................................

Sal, how did you miss the part that stated "HIGHLY ACADEMICALLY QUALIFIED". I, like most ND fans, am suggesting a lowering of academic entrance standards but merely seeking out JC players who has distinguished themselves in the classroom enough to be considered as a bonafided recruit for the Irish.

highly acad. qual. means different things to different schools.......you must know a student that is accepted at lets say u of tenn. , will not get into m.i.t..........jr col .programs are a back door method to get into a major col. for an athlete not accepted right off the bat....i beleive it hurts the credibility of the school in the long run,but makes for a better sports program.........................................lo ok at rutgers..

When you sign in, there's a little box you can check - "Remember Me" or something like that. That way you won't automatically be logged out.

I mean by "Highly Academically Qualified" those students-athletes who can meet ND's rigerous standards.

Yep...I don't think those standards apply to school like FSU etc... ...In a way, it's like Army or Air Force etc...where it's hell academically to get in, so good luck being highly competitive on the field.
