Charlie Weis third season

The Washington Post recently ran a great article about the importance of the third season for Notre Dame coaches. As Eric Prisbell, the story's author, writes, "Ara Parseghian, Dan Devine and Lou Holtz won national championships in their third season. Tyrone Willingham, on the other hand, was fired after concluding his third autumn at Notre Dame... After leading the Fighting Irish to consecutive BCS bowl appearances, Charlie Weis is a long shot to win a national title or get fired in his third season at his alma mater."

Play oddsmaker for a second. If you had to place a bet on one of those things happening - Weis winning a BCS title or getting canned - which would you put your money on? While he probably won't do either in 2007, do you think the current Fighting Irish coach is closer to winning it all or losing his job?

I don't think most objective ND fans have had time enough to evaluate Weis's impact on ND football in the three years he has been at the helm. His first two years were successful due to the talent Willingham left behind and this year isn't enough time to see how he can develop talent he recruited. Next year one will have a better idea as to what Weis's real ability is and how he can develop talent the Irish secure.

Being this is his third year develping talent he had given to him and that which he brought in as well, it doesn't look like the program is heading in the right direction. This is the same thing logic used in the firing of Willingham. But, I never felt Willingham had enough time to develop his program and the talent he recruited so I don't think three years is enough time for Weis. I would said next year will tell us how he is developing the talent he brought in and which direction the progrm is heading. As I have posted elsewhere on this site, if Weis does well next season then I would favor a fifth year for him. After all, the Irish have lightened up their schedule in the future so Weis should have an easier time down the read. The problem is, as I see it, ND gave Weis a 10 year contract before they had proof he could really "walk on water" so, now they are stick with him and attempt to hype the hell out of him in hopes they were correct in their selection as Head Coach.

Come on let's get real! Weis in not the guy! In all respect, seriously, how can young guys looking for lead respect some one who's so over weight? And he has no emotion to get fired up! If only we had Urban Myer!
Who he heck is the athletic directer!

Kevin White is the athletic director of Notre Dame.

If Weis isn't the guy, Bornin1988, then who? Who could get this team turned around (besides Meyer)?

Hey, guys, keep in mind that Weis was the "Bridesmaid" not the "Bride" for the Irish. Myers was who they really wanted but settled for Weis.
