Post Notre Dame drops Michigan State

Notre Dame's effort to play different opponents in football over the next decade will affect Michigan State, as the Fighting Irish plan to drop MSU from their schedule for the 2012 and 2013 seasons... After that two-year hiatus, the MSU-Notre Dame series is expected to start again. MSU associate athletics director John Lewandowski said the schools have discussed resuming the series for 2014, but contracts have not yet been signed.

Word is they're going to replace the Spartans with Arizona. Good move?

As a Notre Dame fan, my blood pressure can certainly take a break from this game for a couple years. Too many insane ones in recent memory.

Let me guess Mary's Sisters of the Deaf and Blind got a NCAA Div III schedual and Notre Dame picked them up.

Yeah, well, I know Arizona's no non-conference heavyweight like Western Carolina or Louisiana-Monroe, but I guess they'll have to do.

Saban is offering...Notre Dame says NOOOooo we can't drop army , navy or airforce. Please they just want to do like the old days play all patsys with one strong opponent. It is tough to get up for a schedual like Kentucky's. Besides other than the fluke last year when has Arizona been a factor? How many National Titles do they carry under thier belt? How well do they travel? I know they will give a larger than normal amount of money to the Notre Dame School just to get exposure. So let's look at this as what it is business it all comes down to Irish dollars.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Saban talked tough in the media. Everyone knows it's lip service. If they were serious, Mal Moore would be calling Kevin White.

Guess I don't for sure. But I have a feeling that they could work something out if push came to shove. For all the jokes, the Irish have added OU, Arizona, kept Michigan and are looking into a couple of series with the Big East. So it sure doesn't seem to me that they're ducking anyone, in spite of the fact that they want to keep their traditional series with the service academies in tact.

First of all, I am OK with the Irish's loyality to the "Service Academies" since they were faithful to ND in the "forties" when no one wanted to take the Irish on. Secondly, I don't mind the Irish selecting a Big East opponent in the future in place of Michigan State as long as it isn't a "bottom feeder". Keep in mind the Irish for all intended purposes belong to the Big East. The "Service Academies" are patsey enough on the schedule along with the weak programs of Duke and North Carolina and others in the future. Thirdly, in this day and age, I don't expect the Irish to take on all "comers" anywhere at any time because they puts ND at a distinct disadvantage over other programs vieing for a FBS championship. In conclusion, if ND schedules replacement opponents for MSU I hope it won't be UCom or Marshall, etc.

Nah the Duke on the list... maybe William & Mary has a opening. The Irish might want a piece of Sisters of the Deaf & Blind.

Stoney, are you forgetting that FBC football is all about the money? Ya, the Irish have to go the same direction most other FBC program schedule are heading in to keep their share of the money rolling in. It's just big business, that's all FBS programs are about.

Then they should take Saban up on his offer! The Irish are soft overated and cowards when it comes to playing Alabama. Back in the 60's they said we don't play bowl games. Alabama went undefeated three years straight and was robbed of a national title because ND came back to Tie Michigan. That was crap then and and the BS they put out about money is BS too... Play SOMEBODY! Saban called you out cowards!

Stoney, maybe I'm not making my point clearly enough. What I am saying is ND, like other FBS series programs. is going in the direction of softening up their schedules so they can assure enough wins to play in a FBS Bowl Game, first, for the money or payout, and secondly, for the opportunity of securing a NC. I don't think the Irish are interested in strengthening their schedule just like other so-called "Top Ranked" programs aren't doing. The days are over when the Irish play anyone, anywhere, and anytime. While they still may be "media darlings" and bring in the money due to their exception fan base and following, they are for all intented purposes just a memory of their past but will still be a exceptionsl program from time to time. Their money assures them of that due to their outstanding facilities and tradition, abilities to change coaches without regard to money, and attract most coaches financially and who, in their opinion, warrant the helm.
