Get your information straight. ND came back to tie Michigan State (MSU) that year, not Michigan (U of M).

If ND truly belongs to the Big East then it needs to schedule many more BE football opponents. There's really nothing "eastern" about ND. Of course, you can say the same about Louisville, WVA, & Cincinnati. In fact, ND is further west than some B10 schools.

I'm kind of surprised that Michigan agreed to extend its contract with ND. Of course, we all know the history between the 2 programs and how Michigan refused to schedule the Irish for most of the first half of the 20th century. Bo Schembechler was also against scheduling ND since the Irish turned down membership to the B10.

Well, anyway, I'm glad that the series with Michigan will continue. It only makes sense to renew the series involving the 2 all-time "winningest" programs in Div IA although you could scarcely tell that either one is a winning program this season. Further, although venerable rivals, both are basically "blood" relatives.

It's a historical relationship unique to ND & Michigan. Are there any other programs out there with a comparable relationship? Unfortunately, both are presently being upstaged by the USC's, Florida's, & LSU's of the college football world. However, both remain my favorites among the college football giants...yes, even in the lean times.
