Now, it's Steve Filer's turn to step into Demetrius Jones' territory. Filer, one of the most heavily recruited linebackers in the country, will join Jones at Notre Dame in the fall of 2008 after giving the Irish coaching staff a verbal commitment over the weekend. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Filer is the 19th player overall, and 12th defensive player, to verbally commit to Notre Dame's recruiting class of 2008. NCAA recruiting rules prohibit Irish coach Charlie Weis or his assistants from publicly commenting on a prospect until the player has signed a national letter-of-intent. Signing day is Feb. 6. Filer is ranked as a five-star player (on a five-star scale) by CSTV recruiting analyst Tom Lemming. "He has the potential to be an impact player," Lemming said. Filer, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, projects as an inside linebacker in Notre Dame's 3-4 scheme.
