University of Notre Dame senior tight end John Carlson has been named to the 2007 Maxwell Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday. The award has been presented to the outstanding collegiate football player in America since 1937.
Carlson enters his fifth year at Notre Dame after a strong campaign in 2006. The Litchfield, Minn., native was a 2006 Mackey Award finalist and he was also named a second-team All-American by SI.com after posting 47 receptions for 634 yards with four touchdowns. He finished the season third on the team in receiving yards, fourth in receptions and fifth on the team in scoring with four touchdown catches.
Selected a 2007 team captain by his teammates, Carlson was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team in 2006.
