No excuses: Weis expects Notre Dame to keep winning
Fort Wayne News Sentinel, IN - 7 hours ago
Don’t give Charlie Weis any excuses. He doesn’t want to hear them. He refuses to give in to them.

“Tradition never graduates,” the University of Notre Dame football coach says.

Yes, the Irish lost their record-breaking quarterback (Brady Quinn) and record-breaking receivers (Jeff Samardzija, Rhema McKnight) and some key offensive linemen (Ryan Harris, Bob Morton, Dan Santucci) and some quarterback-stuffing defensive linemen (Victor Abiamiri, Derek Landri) and even a 3,000-yard-plus tailback (Darius Walker).

No matter. The goals are the same: Win big, win often, win well. In fact, win all the time.

“You say we only have three guys coming back on offense, a few more coming back on defense,” Weis says. “I guess we should just throw in the towel now. I don’t think that’s what good teams do.”

Weis doesn’t want just a good team. He wants a great program, and the 19-6 record and two BCS bowl appearances he had in his first two seasons as head coach is merely a good start.

“My goal this year and next year and the year after that is to win every game,” Weis says.

No doubt about it. Weis has some serious holes to fill, especially on offense. Yes, I realize that the team has some young talent, filled with potential, but how quickly can they realize that potential? This season will be a big test for the former Patriots offensive coordinator, I'll tell you that!
