Re: Notre Dame football recruiting

Well, they sure could have used this kid Wright, but at least the Irish are still a Top 10 class, according to Rivals.com.

Re: Notre Dame football recruiting

According to a recent article by Ken Fowler of The Observer, "Poaching season reached its apex for Notre Dame this week as the Irish stole two prospects from schools that had received verbal commitments from players... Players cannot sign binding letters of intent until National Signing Day Feb. 7, but the cycle of recruits reneging on oral promises and going elsewhere continued the past two days. For Notre Dame, it included linebacker Brian Smith of Overland Park, Kan., and kicker Brandon Walker of Findlay, Ohio, committing to Irish coach Charlie Weis."

SOUTH BEND, Ind. A high school linebacker from Kansas and a kicker from Ohio have announced they plan to sign letters of intent with Notre Dame next week to play for the Irish in the fall.

Brian Smith earlier announced he would go to Iowa, but has changed his mind. The six-foot-three, 230-pound linebacker at Saint Thomas Aquinas High in Overland Park, Kansas. He's the son of Chris Smith, who was a fullback at Notre Dame.

Placekicker Brandon Walker of Findlay, Ohio, committed to Louisville in September, but began reconsidering his decision after coach Bobby Petrino took the coaching job with the Atlanta Falcons.

Relax ? Notre Dame recruiting is just fine
Fort Wayne News Sentinel, IN - 6 hours ago
Here we are, reveling in the aftermath of the Indianapolis Colts’ Super Bowl frenzy, ready to contemplate what really matters in the civilized world:

University of Notre Dame football recruiting.

By now, you’ve heard the Irish lost out on a couple of defensive studs (ends Ben Martin and Martez Wilson, tackle Will Blackwell and linebacker Chris Donald), lost a defensive line commitment (Justin Trattou) to Floridaand lost all national-title hope for the next 100 years.

Even worse, by Wednesday’s national signing day, Notre Dame’s incoming class might slip from No. 5 nationally to — oh my goodness! — No. 8.

Take a deep breath. National recruiting expert Tom Lemming has perspective for you, which is what you’d expect from a guy who’s been in the business for 28 years.

“Notre Dame is having an outstanding year,” says Lemming, the recruiting analyst for CSTV, “but they certainly need help on the defense for next year.”

Here’s the deal. The Irish’s 20-man class is once again offense-heavy with guys like quarterback Jimmy Clausen (the No. 1 recruit in the country), running backs Armando Allen and Robert Hughes, wide receivers Greg Little and Duvall Kamara, tight end Mike Ragone and offensive linemen Chris Little, Andrew Nuss and Matt Romine.

ND Football 2007 Recruiting Report
Fox 28, IN - 7 hours ago
Wednesday Charlie Weis talked about Jimmy Clausen and the rest of the class of 2007.

Clausen is among 7 players that were ranked in the top 100 by Rivals.com. Duval Kamara is a wide receiver from Jersey, Armando Allen is a running back from Florida.

Then there are players like Matt Romine, Robert Hughes from Chicago, Gary Gray and Mike Ragone, another Jersey boy.

Of course Clausen is the gem of the class ranked #1 overall by a number of sources. He'd never lost a high school game and committed last Spring at the College Football Hall of Fame.

The Irish were expected to get 20 commitments today, but Greg Little, a wide receiver from North Carolina and Chris Little, an offensive lineman from Georgia changed their minds.

Re: ND Football 2007 Recruiting Report

According to the above story, "The Irish were ranked 5th by Luginbill's, 6th by Rivals and 7th by Scout." Happy with this class, ND fans?

Recruiting week in review.
Fighting Irish Insider - 10 hours ago
The 3-4 scheme demands that Notre Dame recruit and sign big athletic linebackers. Arthur Brown, LB, 6-3, 215, Wichita East High School, Wichita, KS fits that bill perfectly. Brown may well end up being the best linebacker in the class of 2008, a talent that he has demonstrated since he first walked onto the varsity field as a freshman.

The first varsity play of Brown’s career resulted in his sacking the quarterback. Since that time he has only gotten better. His head coach, Brian Byers recognizes that he’s coaching a very special player in Brown.

“He has good strength, good speed, has a knack for the football, and he plays with a an extremely high level of intensity,” said Byers. “He has a motor than when it turns on, it just goes. He’s probably the best prospect to come out of this area since [Florida State alum and Cleveland Browns linebacker] Kamerion Wimbley.”

Re: Recruiting week in review.

"Notre Dame has caught Brown’s interest and the young Kansan would like to learn more about the Irish," according to the above story, which adds that Brown "intends to contact Notre Dame defensive coordinator Corwin Brown within the next couple of weeks but with all the interest he has generated, he has a long list of coaches to call." Nebraska and Oklahoma are among the other schools interested. Can ND land this kid?

Los Angeles Times, CA - 3 hours ago
Dayne Crist, a 6-foot-5 junior quarterback from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame who is considered one of the top quarterbacks in Southern California, has committed to Notre Dame.

Crist made an unofficial visit to South Bend, Ind., last week to watch spring football practice. He will be joining a program in which Jimmy Clausen of Westlake Village Oaks Christian is competing for the starting quarterback position this fall as a freshman.

Last week, Crist's teammate, junior linebacker Anthony McDonald, committed to the Fighting Irish.

Post PRP football star commits to Notre Dame - Louisville Courier-Journal

Pleasure Ridge Park High School defensive tackle Brandon Newman has become one of the most recruited football prospects in Kentucky.

But even with new schools coming after him on a daily basis, Newman felt he couldn’t do any better than a school already on his list.

So yesterday on a trip to South Bend, Ind., the 6-foot-1, 305-pound Newman gave Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis a verbal commitment.

“When it boiled down to it, I looked at my options and when it comes to academics and athletics Notre Dame was at the top of the list,” Newman said in a phone interview as he left the football offices. “If any other school would have come in and offered, Notre Dame would have still been at the top.”

Post Now That's a Football Name: Notre Dame Brings in the Slaughter

Even if you ignore the fact that he's a highly-touted four-star defensive back prospect with offers from Alabama, Georgia and LSU (woop woop, Southern Speed®!), you have to be excited when Notre Dame lands a recruit named Jamoris Slaughter. Yikes. Now that's an old-time football name.

If you're keeping track at home, that brings the Irish 2007 recruiting class to 16 top-rated recruits. With about 22 scholarships available for the class, there's a realistic chance that the entire recruiting process will be wrapped up (except for the gnashing of teeth and last-minute switcheroos) before the opening kickoff of the season.
