Jeff Samardzija Signs Five-Year MLB Deal With Chicago Cubs :: All-American wide receiver and right-handed pitcher agreed to a $10 million, five-year contract
The Chicago Cubs today announced that the club and right-handed pitcher Jeff Samardzija have agreed to a five-year Major League contract with club options for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Samardzija, who will focus solely on his baseball career, will report to Big League camp in Mesa, Ariz., on February 14.

the big claus is the no trade claus that is hughe plus his contract can be worth up to 7 yrs 16.5 mil. Look the cubs are in a spot for pitchers, there running out of arms and need new arms to break down quickly too

I have no clue what kind of pitcher he is but it should be interesting to watch his progress. I doubt he makes the big league team but could see the Cubbies sticking him in Double-A or Triple-A and calling him up later in the season if his performance is good enough.

nah, he is slated to started in class a in the florida state leauge empire remember he got drafted in june played short season baseball left early to return to ND he hasnt even pitched a full minor leauge season yet. You pitch close to 60-80 less innings a full minor leauge season then you do in the bigs. He is 1-2 years away from even sniffing the bigs

Who says football players aren't smart? Here's one that was clever enough to get guaranteed money and not have to have his brains knocked in. But, look where he woinds up. I can hear the Goat coming for this fella sometinme in his career with those Cubbies.

In my personal opinion i think that he would have made one hell of a surprise reciever in the NFL. I really dont follow baseball, however i know that many kids my age would not watch baseball as much as the NFL. Jeff should have stayed a reciever, and made some more memorable receptions!
