Charlie Weis Real First Season At Notre Dame

ok, yes i know he has been there for 2 years now

but, i consider next season to be Charlie Weis real first season at Notre Dame

his recruits will be juniors and he will have his hand picked replacement for Brady Quinn

he will also have no more excuses of coaching someone elses players

it will be interesting to see how Notre Dame does next year

Time to see if this Claussen kid is as good as advertised. If Weis has him for 4 years, he could really be something special.

It sounds like he will be a high maintenance kid .. like Mitch Mustain.

He better be a lot better than his brothers ... they were average at best.

Re: Charlie Weis Real First Season At Notre Dame

I feel Weis is a great coach but I also feel that he will never live up to the expectations of the fans or the supporters of Notre Dame. And honestly, playing with someone else's players. There are plenty of coaches that would have loved to have the quarterback / wide receiver combination that he has had the last two years.

Re: Charlie Weis Real First Season At Notre Dame

Weis is a good football coach and I think that he hasn't done bad... my perspective on the "new coach coming in" is that you truely don't see how good that coach is until his own "recruits" actually get to come in and start playing....so, time will tell.

I agree .. .Ty Willingham had similar success with Bob Davies players ... and he was let go a couple years later.

Weis so far has been a blowhard. He will start having to show if he is a good coach or not in 2007.

Urban Meyer won the NC this year with Zook's players ... he has still not shown me anything either. They were lucky as heck this year to even be in the game.

Year 4 and 5 is the telling years ... Weis's may come sooner since he had a bunch of talented seniors this year.

Re: Charlie Weis Real First Season At Notre Dame

He is a great offensive mind, at least. But like you guys say, this is the year we find out whether or not Weis is truly head coaching material. I think he is, but it'd sure help out a lot if he could find a Romeo caliber coach to help him on the defensive side of the ball.

I disagree. Harvin and Tebow were both freshman, and both played a major role in the title run. Especially Harvin. Meyer has proven he's a very good recruiter and his team appears to be loaded with youth.

Re: Charlie Weis Real First Season At Notre Dame

my point is he had a great very underrated qb in Chris Leak running the offense. Leak was a very intelligent qb that did not make many mistakes. He did not get over excited when the game was on and he managed the game very well. and he was a Ron Zook recruit.

If Tebow was the qb this year, they would have lost more games.

Next year will show a lot. IF he can get Tebow to play his system and be successful, then maybe I will be a believer.

They got several breaks during the year that kept them in the NC hunt ... I know ... that is why you play them ...

Re: Charlie Weis Real First Season At Notre Dame

I agree that this will be a strategic year for his coaching career at Notre Dame, but I was making the point at the quality of players that were left for him. He should have won more games with those players.
