Notre Dame Rose Bowl snub

Sportsticker is reporting that the Rose Bowl is going to pass on Notre Dame and instead select LSU to play either Pac-10 Champions USC or Big 10 runner-up Michigan. What do you Irish fans think of this? Personally, I would've loved to see a Rose Bowl rematch between the Irish and the Trojans, but I guess it's not meant to be. So where do the Irish wind up playing, anyway?

Re: Notre Dame Rose Bowl snub

I like the call, Michigan would've killed the Irish in the Rose Bowl this year. Plus, at least Michigan/LSU is a fresh match-up.

There are some interesting teams out there for the at large bids in the BCS: Boise State, Louisville (if Rutgers beats WVU), Wisconsin and Arkansas. Of course, Notre Dame will probably get one of the two at-large bids.

I could see Notre Dame playing the Big 12 Champ in the Fiesta Bowl or playing in the Sugar Bowl.

Sugar Bowl - Florida vs Notre Dame
IMO Florida will win the SEC title and earn an automatic berth to the Sugar Bowl. The Rose Bowl will pass on Notre Dame because they don't want a Michigan/Notre Dame rematch, so the Irish land here as an at-large. Notre Dame can be selected as an at-large team with at least nine wins and ranked in the Top 16 of the BCS -- they have done both.

Rose Bowl - Michigan vs LSU
Michigan is currently ranked No. 3 in the BCS and should be selected as one of the replacement teams by the Rose Bowl. With the bowl's other selection, IMO they will take LSU, which is ranked No. 5 in the BCS. If the Rose Bowl decides to match Notre Dame vs. Michigan, the Big East champ goes to the Sugar, while LSU goes to the Orange.

That's not a snub, you got killed by USC and Michigan, didn't come within winning at hardly any point, that's not a snub, that's a gift. you do want to win, I'm assuming?

Re: Notre Dame Rose Bowl snub

Im tired of people thinking that Notre Dame can't match up with Michigan. Maybe I can't prove anything because the only proof is 47-21. Remember that two of those touchdowns were from Notre Dame turnovers off a bad bounce and a late fumble. If ND didn't get beat on a couple of near perfect throws that becomes a ball game. I think if they did play again you would see a better game because I honestly feel that Michigan offense is not as good as USC. This isn't a snub but the correct move. The bowl committee does have some say and will work wherever possible to avoid rematches. Either way I think you would see a good game, but overall TV ratings will be better if Notre Dame plays the SEC champ and LSU plays Michigan....

Domer, what games have you been watching. I always root for Notre Dame but they should have hired the entire Patriots' package, Weis to run the offense and Romeo for the defense. I have had two hip replacements and I could catch three passes a game against those defensive backs. Notre Dame had two high profile games and got blown out twice. They are extremely lucky to be in a BCS bowl and should take their money and spend it quick.

Re: Notre Dame Rose Bowl snub

My point was each game took the spin of Notre Dame got "blown out and never had a shot" when that really wasn't true. The points I made about the Michigan game were that if a few bounces go the other way, maybe the game is closer than expected. Or how about if Notre Dame were to cash in a few scores when they were inside the USC 30 yard line 5 TIMES in the first half. Maybe I'm just making a case that the offense is the only reason they have hung around, but please admit that this might not be that bad of a team. I mean again we are talking about a Notre Dame team that has lost to two of the top three teams this year. Give ND some credit before you say "they are extremely lucky" because I don't think that is true.

I understand that in order to be Notre Dame you have to realize that no matter what, people will find fault in what you do. Hence the fact that no one seems to realize is that Notre Dame has faced 7 bowl teams this year, and beaten 5 of them (thats the 5th most in the NCAA). Everyone also wants to talk about Army, Navy, and Air Force, but remember Notre Dame had to play one of the craziest September schedules a team could. I mean their first 5 opponents were undefeated when the played the Irish. Thats tough for anyone! I am not saying Notre Dame should be national champs, but don't tell me they aren't deserving a major bowl bid and BCS spot....

I agree. Notre Dame is over rated and always will be because of their past, just like Alabama. But when you play USC and Michigan and get killed by both their is no way they should even play in a BCS bowl.
