If Notre Dame is the most overrated college football team, how come it always seems that Individuals (Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and even JaMarcus Russell) all are heralded for beating ND? Palmer and Leinart "Won the Heisman Trophy after beating ND, and now Russell is the "first" pick in the draft after his game against ND". If ND is that bad, then these guys shouldn't be heralded for beating them.

Re: Is Notre dame the most overrated college sports entity? To answer this question, try to think of the team more overrated than Notre Dame. if it takes you more than ten seconds, then the answer to the original question is no, there is nobody more overrated.

Re: Is Notre dame the most overrated college sports entity? I noticed a few posters who wrote as if we all have something to do with Notre Dame's relationship to conferences and the NCAA. Well Notre Dame's administration handles that, not a bunch of web geek posters like us. So let's get it in perspective. But let's address a few items for clarity. I'm an alum and have a different perspective on what is and what should be. Also I'm over 30 and so have an attention span longer than 5 minutes. I remember American history, including sports history. I remember a time when sports were dicussed in something more than ghetto terms, when men were men, not a bunch of hoods. But that's another story. First of all the NBC contract. ND and NBC like the deal so what's wrong with it for everyone else. I don't hear the other networks complaining. There's nothing illegal, immoral, or unethical about it. It's business, just like ESPN/ABC's monopoly on every major conference other than the SEC. Is that more righteous? I think not. Second, the idea that ND steals bowls from other teams. Read the rules of the BCS. ND has no more rights than a non-BCS conference team. Also what is so sacred about conferences? I think Boise State proved a point that "BCS" conferences may not be everything they're touted as. Once upon a time before the mid 1990s, independents provided a great balance of powerhouse programs that played among multiple conferences and allowed a check as to a conference's power rating nationally. It's pretty hard to tell these days, other than relying on the pimp sports writers who seem to have agendas to promote one conference or other. Third, the idea that Notre Dame doesn't matter. Well if Notre Dame didn't matter, you all wouldn't be here talking about it. Florida St. and Miami are going into the black hole Notre Dame just came out of so fans of those teams should quitely wait. Also, the age of cleaner programs might just be around the corner so the homey's from the hood could be looking to go to the NFL a different way. No thanks, Michael Irvin, T.O. etc. So Notre Dame matters to the sports fans who want to teach their kids something good, something better than the Bloods and the Cribs in helmets.

Notre Dame did not start their season overrated. I think starting into the season they decided to be preset where they were. Number 2. I have no doubts about that. We pulled off some very remarkable games. And some of you may say that ND peed their pants when it came to the top dogs. But again, going back to UCLA ... The only team, and I'm staying the ONLY team, in the nation that I think deserves outstanding points is Boise State. They are the only team in the nation to go completely undefeated. You don't hear them whinning. You don't hear them complaining... Anyways, that's just my imput. Last edited by Lefty Noob : 02-13-2007 at 07:48 PM. Reason: edited for content |

Re: Is Notre dame the most overrated college sports entity? Notre Dame might join a conference if it only means joining the athletic portion. As an alum, I voted down the Big Ten push along with a vast majority of alums. The School's board of directors wanted it. But Notre Dame is a Catholic school and joining the Big Ten would mean agreeing to partake in research that may have gone against it's Catholic character and moral teachings. That's a big reason why Notre Dame stays independent. ESPN doesn't tell folks that side of the story. I liked the points made about USC losing to UCLA and Ohio St. getting blown out by Florida. These are tough teams. I feel like there are a group of younger people who think sports is win it all or you suck. That's not how it should be. Any team in the top 25 is a top notch team. Anyone who's played sports can appreciate that.
