How much of an impact does the Notre Dame - USC rivalry game have on Heisman voting?

Big numbers on this stage aren't Heisman guarantee - Los Angeles Times

There's a popular notion that the USC-Notre Dame game is a stage where Heisman Trophy winners are made. That belief dates back a few years, to when USC's Carson Palmer threw four touchdown passes against Notre Dame and pretty much secured his bid for the 2002 Heisman.
With USC and Notre Dame accounting for seven Heisman winners each, some regard their annual game as a direct ticket to the Downtown Athletic Club ceremony... But a glance back at the historic rivalry offers conflicting evidence. Players have won because of and despite their performances, and, in some cases, the award was announced before the big game.

Definitely John Lattner's 4 TDs vs USC and Matt Leinart's 5 TD pass day against the Irish helped.
What do you guys think of the notion that this game is a showcase for Heisman voters. Is it true, or just a bunch of bunk?
