Re: Fighting Irish - Trojans game

So much on the line here... both teams are still alive, technically, for a BCS title game berth. Predictions?

Re: Fighting Irish - Trojans game

As I've stated else where, my daughter is a big Irish fan, so I'm picking with my heart, not my head on this one. Notre Dame by 14.

Post Weis USC Press Conference

Coach Weis comments on this week's USC Game, from his weekly press conference:

Quote:
Charlie Weis Press Conference Transcript (Nov. 21) :: Irish head coach looks ahead to this weekend's matchup with USC.
Besides the fact that it's a big rivalry, the magnitude of the game is so much more. That and the fact that although I've only been here going on my second season, the guys here haven't beaten USC. I mean, you'd like to figure that you walked out of the door having beaten them once. The magnitude of the game, because of the fact that you have two teams with only one loss, combined with the natural rivalry that it already is, combined with the fact that USC has had the best of us recently, it all builds all together.

Post Notre Dame Football Captains Press Conference Transcripts

The Notre Dame players comment on the upcoming game between the Irish and the Trojans.

Quote:
Notre Dame Football Captains Press Conference Transcripts :: Irish special team, offensive and defensive captains meet with the media.
Travis Thomas: "Growing up, [USC] had a lot of tradition. Guys like Marcus Allen, Willie McGinest, guys you've been watching all along come out of there, guys like Notre Dame Jerome Bettis and things like that. Really similar in tradition and pride. The rivalry is one of the biggest in college history. When the two meet up, it's going to be a battle to the end."

Brady Quinn: "Really they're a solid team all around. You can't just look at one particular position and point it out as overwhelming compared to the rest... This team does a great job of adapting to whatever environment it's in. I think that's been the case all season. Our biggest thing is just being able to get rid of all the distractions around it, really just executing our game plan, going in there and taking care of our part of the deal."

Sounds like these guys are ready. Can't wait for kickoff. Should be one heck of a football game!

Re: Notre Dame Football Captains Press Conference Transcripts

I feel an upset in the making. I'm going with the Irish by 6.

The question then would be do they make it to the BCS Title game? Or do the voters stick with Michigan and the rematch? So many questions...we'll find out soon.

Re: Notre Dame Football Captains Press Conference Transcripts

Personally, I don't see the Irish having a chance. No way their secondary can contain the SC receivers.

Post USC 44, Notre Dame 24

Up to the minute news about the Notre Dame football team.

Quote:
No. 6 Irish Fall At No. 3 USC, 44-24 :: Quinn throws for 274 yards and three touchdowns in regular season closer.
Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) - No need for any last-second heroics to beat Notre Dame this year.

Southern California's John David Booty passed for 265 yards and three TDs to Dwayne Jarrett as USC whipped the sixth-ranked Fighting Irish 44-24 Saturday night and likely leapfrogged Michigan in the race for the national championship.

No. 3 USC contained Brady Quinn, the Irish's Heisman Trophy contender, and put together a performance that should boost its Bowl Championship Series standing. The Trojans were a close third behind the Wolverines last week.

"I think we're a pretty good team right now," USC coach Pete Carroll said. "We'll play anybody, any where."

Should the Trojans (10-1) beat UCLA (6-5) at the Rose Bowl next weekend, they'll probably play top-ranked Ohio State in the BCS title game Jan. 8 in Glendale, Ariz. USC has beaten its crosstown rivals seven straight times. And now the Trojans have won five straight against Notre Dame (10-2).

Re: USC 44, Notre Dame 24

Well, Notre Dame's obviously eliminated from title game contention. Will they still manage to wind up in a BCS bowl?

Re: Fighting Irish - Trojans game

I think the Rose Bowl will pass on Notre Dame because they don't want a Michigan/Notre Dame rematch, so the Irish should end up in the Sugar Bowl as an at-large against Floridia should they win the SEC title.
