Notre Dame All-Pro Team

Lou Somogyi, editor of Blue & Gold Illustrated, recently compiled a "Notre Dame All-Pro Team"

Somogyi's team feautres the best former Irish players to go on to stellar professional football careers. Interesting list.

Quarterback: Joe Montana
Running Backs: Jerome Bettis and Paul Hornung
Receivers: Tim Brown and Wayne Millner
Tight End: Dave Casper
Offensive Line: George Kunz, Bob Kuechenberg, George Trafton, Frank Varrichione and Dick Szymanski
Defensive Line: Alan Page, George Connor, Bryant Young and Bob Golic
Linebackers: Nick Buoniconti, Jim Lynch and Myron Pottios
Defensive Backs: Dave Duerson, Dave Waymer, Todd Lyght and Dick Lynch
Kicker: John Carney
Punter: Craig Hentrich
Returns: Allen Rossum

What do you think of this squad? Anyone you would change?

Re: Notre Dame All-Pro Team

Who would coach, Weis or maybe Holtz?

There are some names on that list I haven't heard in a long time, thanks for making me feel old.

Thats a monster line up, I don't think I'd change a thing.

Wow, that's a really good question. So many great coaches in Notre Dame history, but outside Weis, Holtz (who was a terrible NFL coach) and Dan Devine, I can't think of anyone with pro ties. I believe Devine did coach Green Bay to a title one year, but I hear that they hated him so much they dumped garbage on his lawn. So I don't know...

I'd have to go with Holtz, I love the guy, and enjoy watching him on ESPN.
But I'd love to wack Curso in the face with a pie, of the cow verity.

Re: Notre Dame All-Pro Team

Holtz was a wondeful collegiate coach, but if we're going by pro status like with the players on the team, he stunk it up with I believe it was the Jets. Weis was a great coordinator but has yes to be an NFL head coach (he will, someday). You've got Knute and Ara, but I'm not familiar with any pro background with either of them, so its a tough choice for me given the criteria.

Re: Notre Dame All-Pro Team

How is there an all-time ND team that doesn't feature Rocket Ismail? That guy could play almost anywhere, but definetely he would be the returner for that team (remember Michigan/2 TD returns).

Head Coach: Ara Parseghian
Honorary Head coach: Knute Rockne, traveling to the games by train...

Re: Notre Dame All-Pro Team

Ah, but domer, therein lies the trick of this team. It's not based on what they did in college, but what they went on to do in the NFL after leaving Notre Dame. That's what makes it so darn tough, especially picking a coach.
