Notre Dame vs UCLA

The Fighting Irish had a bye week and then UCLA comes to South Bend. Notre Dame vs UCLA pits the 4-2 Bruins against the #9 ranked Irish. UCLA lost to #18 Oregon last week. Sophomore Patrick Cowan is the replacement QB for UCLA after losing starting QB Ben Olson. Olsen had 1 interception & was unimpressive against the Ducks, going 16 of 31 for 112 yards.

ND should make good use of the bye week, several players were banged up coming out of the Stanford game.

What do you think will happen in the Notre Dame vs UCLA game? What would it take for the Irish to lose this one?

...And Notre Dame continues rolling on through their weak schedule...until Southern Cal's the roadblock that is.

The Bruins would need to have a healthy Olsen to even stand a chance here. They don't, so they won't. Notre Dame wins 38-6.

Whoa whoa whoa! Pundit, are you actually predicting that UCLA is going to beat Notre Dame? Without Olsen at quarterback? Que?

Re: Notre Dame vs UCLA

Ya'll watching the game? Hopefully we can get it together the second half - but I am getting very skeptical!
I liked all the predictions of a blowout! Let's hope it's not one...in UCLA's favor.

Go Bruins! So far they are pulling off the upset with a 17-13 lead about midway through the 4th quarter.

Re: Notre Dame vs UCLA

Okay, let me just say this. UCLA probably should have won the game.

No, there was no bad referee calls for anything like this. It's their own fault. On the last Bruin drive before the game-winning touchdown, UCLA was facing 11 in the box. And they ran 3 STRAIGHT TIMES! A play action pass would've been risky, but the payoff could've been huge. Then the pass rush suddenly disappears on the final Irish drive, the receivers have plenty of time to get open and Quinn has plenty of time to find them. Game over.

That said, kudos to the Irish for the comeback. Rolling Quinn out on the last drive was a brilliant move; something they should have done more of, especially after the halftime adjustments.

I really don't mean to take anything away from them, but first Michigan State and now UCLA... what is it about these teams that get a 4th quarter lead on Notre Dame and then blow it by becoming ultra-conservative?

Oh, and welcome to GoTeamsGo, danirish. Thanks for joining us!

I heard Quinn went 80 yards in 35 seconds on that last drive...is he starting to look like a first overall pick again?

Re: Notre Dame vs UCLA

No, and see, this bugs me. Everyone's going to look at that last drive and start the Heisman hype with Quinn again. But UCLA owned him for 59 minutes. The pass rush was absolutely killing him. They had something like 5-6 sacks and tons of hits and knockdowns. The Bruins defense wasn't as aggressive on that last drive, and with the extra time, Quinn was able to march the Irish down the field and score. Believe me, he's no Troy Smith.

Yeah, but the drive is what you look at...59 minutes of the D being in his face...that has to be in part a line issue...heck, its this forum that argues against the Michael Vicks of the world, and find the proto-type to be a Tom Brady...is he not in Brady's company? (Who of course went in the 6th round).
