Oklahoma's Stoops again tries to shoot down Notre Dame talk



Tells Sporting News Radio 'there's nothing to talk about,' stops short of a categorical denial

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops on Wednesday again tried to dismiss rumors that he is a candidate to take over at Notre Dame if the school fires coach Charlie Weis after the season.

Asked by Sporting News Radio's Tim Montemayor if there is "any truth (to the rumors), anything going on with you and Notre Dame?", Stoops replied: "Notre Dame has a coach, so there's nothing to talk about," reiterating what he has told reporters all week.
Stoops also told Montemayor that he considers any talk linking him to other school just "noise."

"I'm very fortunate to work with great people here and a great situation at a great university," he said.
The Chicago Sun-Times, citing a third-hand source, reported this week that Stoops would be interested in speaking with Notre Dame officials about the job. Stoops responded that the newspaper was making up the story.

I have been hearing this rumor lately about Stoops talking with Notre Dame and also that Notre Dame current head coach possibly on the chopping block.

Anybody think Stoops to coach Notre Dame may happen?

This confuses me you would think Stoops would want to win a BCS Championship before he would leave and there is no way he would want to Notre Dame may pay him higher but it is much more difficult to rebirth a program then to stick with a program that is one of the most respected programs in the nation.

I hope Stoops isn't even considered for the ND job!! First of all he has already proven he can't win the big game!

Second why would ND hire a coach who has only won with academic inferior players??

What I mean by that is... Why hire a top name coach that wants 5 mil a year when you aren't going to buckle your academic standards?!?!?!

Lets face it folks... It's hard to find a player with 4.1 speed in the 40 with a 3.7 GPA and a 1200 SAT score... And that is being generous!!
