Tar Heels cruise into Sweet 16

North Carolina's making it look easy - the whipped Arkansas 108-77 yesterday to make it into the Sweet 16.

According to the Associated Press, "Wayne Ellington scored 20 points and the Tar Heels (34-2) raced to a double-digit lead in the first 5 minutes to earn a trip to the East Regional semifinals in Charlotte... They will face fourth-seeded Washington State on Thursday night in the same arena where they won last weekend’s Atlantic Coast Conference tournament."

They are clicking on offense. They scored 100 points in 2 straight games. I hope they can keep it up, but I am worried about their defense

Re: Tar Heels cruise into Sweet 16

I read up on Washington State with them beating a good Notre Dame team by 20 points. I did a double take looking at that score.

If North Carolina isn't use to a slowdown struggle for every shot kinda game, they could have a problem if they played Washington State in the earlier rounds.

But North Carolina has a week to prepare for them with a veteran coach and a good defensive squad themselves. Coach Williams was quoted, " No one gets to the Final Four without a great defense."

North Carolina likes to run and gun but it will be a different type of game for them to play this time. Washington State has Senior leadership to anchor team under trying circumstances.

It will take North Carolina teamwork and scoring off defensive plays which should help them prevail. It may not be easy though.
