Details of Davis' contract released

CHAPEL HILL --

The one-year contract extension North Carolina gave football coach Butch Davis is a bit different from what the school first announced.

On Friday, school officials released Davis' new contract to the Charlotte Observer and other media outlets that asked for it in open records requests. In November, the school announced a $291,000 yearly raise for Davis.

That would be true if he leaves before Jan. 15, 2012. If not, the raise is worth $134,000 a year. The discrepancy lies in the change of the terms of Davis' retention bonus.
