Tar Heels WR Hakeem Nicks

In a recent North Carolina football preview, the Charlotte Observer called WR Hakeem Nicks the Tar Heels' key player in 2007. According to the article, "With little experience at tailback and quarterback, this team needs a skill position leader. Nicks, the sophomore from Charlotte who caught 39 passes for 660 yards last season, can fill that role." How does Nicks rank among the top wideouts in the ACC?

Re: Tar Heels WR Hakeem Nicks

Hakeem Nicks is one of the best in the ACC. He is a tall, strong kid that does not have a problem going up in traffic to bring a catch in. He reminds me a lot of Keyshawn Johnson when he plays. He has great break away speed. In the spring game at UNC he caught a 10 yard broke two tables, and broke it for 60 yards which was an extension of last years numbers. The thing I have heard from a lot of "Sports Guys" is that Nicks put up the numbers he did with two quarterbacks splitting time last year and neither one being all that good of quarterback. UNC has better options this year in T.J. Yates & Mike Paulus this year, so there is a great chance that you will see Nicks putting up some very impressive numbers.

He's 6'1 & 210 lbs which a very nice size for a WR. He can get up the field quickly and does not have any problems shedding cornerbacks. Last year against Notre Dame playing at their home field he had 6 catches for 171 yards with 2 td's. His longest was for 72 yards.
