Roy Williams contract extension

According to the Associated Press, "North Carolina awarded coach Roy Williams a four-year contract extension Thursday that will keep him with the Tar Heels through the 2014-15 season... Williams, who signed an eight-year contract to coach his alma mater before the 2003-04 season, will make up to $1.8 million each year plus incentives based on the Tar Heels' performance on the court and in the classroom."

UNC AD Dick Baddour called Williams "the most complete coach in the country." Would you agree with that? Good idea to give him an extension?

Re: Roy Williams contract extension

He is one of the most competitive coaches in the country and why would you not give him an extension. This assures that he gets to end his career at the place where he started it at.

It also gives him time to groom someone to be the next head coach of UNC (i.e. Wes Miller). Just a thought. The rumor is that if the graduating senior cannot find a place to play overseas that he will return to UNC as a graduate assistant because his ultimate goal is to be a coach.

Re: Roy Williams contract extension

I never doubted they would give him an extension. I would not be surprised if they gave him another one closer to the end of this deal. He will coach as long as he feels like it.
