| My yearly post-draft rant So this is the time of year where I really get mad. Since 2002, not a single UNC football player has been selected in the top 3 rounds of the NFL draft. Now, granted, I know UNC has not had the best program over the last few years, but there are some great players in the pro's right now as a result of UNC (Julius Peppers, Willie Parker, Jeff Saturday, Dre Bly, Greg Ellis, and the list goes on).
UNC has some hidden gems that get to the pros and really start standing out. Take for example Willie Parker. I played high school football against him and he was unstoppable. He got to UNC and was the fastest kid on the team but he clashed with Bunting so he was part of a platoon of players that saw time at RB. When he was in the game, he was good, but he never got that chance to really show what he was capable of doing. UNTIL, he plays in the Super Bowl and breaks it for a 75 yard TD. Every UNC fan was kicking themselves right then and there.
Next, we have David Thornton. David is from my home town of Goldsboro and played at Goldsboro High School. He was a standout athlete competing I believe football, basketball, and track. He played QB and LB in football. He walks on at UNC and finally his senior year he gets a chance to play and shines. He get's drafted in I believe the 4th round by the Colts and in his first year, he leads the team in tackles.
There are some players on the team that you may have never heard of but they have great potential. I would love to see these guys get picked up.
Ok, I'm done.
