Quote:
Williams Gets 500th Career Win in 94-69 Rout of High Point :: Third-ranked Tar Heels improve to 7-1.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - No Division I coach reached the 500-win mark faster than Roy Williams. Fittingly, North Carolina used a quick start to give him that meaningful milestone.

Tyler Hansbrough had 24 points to lead the third-ranked Tar Heels to a 94-69 rout of High Point on Saturday night and give Williams his 500th career win - a mark he said the coach kept silent about all week.

"I think he wanted us to concentrate more on the game, but everyone on the team pretty much knew that tonight was going to be his 500th win, and we wanted to play hard and get that done," Hansbrough said. "To be playing for him on the court, when he got his 500th victory, it's a special honor for all of us on the team."

Williams reached the 500-win mark in his 19th season, a season earlier than Jerry Tarkanian did.

He is going at a very good rate. In the next 10 years he could easily surpase 750 wins.

Re: Roy Williams 500th Career Win

What kind of makes me ill is that Bobby night is soon to surpass Dean Smith as the all time winningest coach. He strangled his way to the title. I think he's one game away. It makes me want to cry. Perhaps he'll get the flu.

Welcome to GTG Tarheelatheart. I agree, Knight is not deserving. But you can't stop a man from winning games. But we all know in our hearts that Dean is the best of all times.

Re: Roy Williams 500th Career Win

Thanks for the welcome.

I needed to hear from another die hard tar heel fan about how unfair this is. I'm glad Knight was never our coach. Lots of people used to put Lefty and Bobby in the same category. But Lefty was controversial but good hearted and darn fun to watch as he kicked chairs.

And, no, you can't keep a coach from winning even if he does it at gunpoint.

I never got to watch Dreisel, it was before my time.

I can't wait to see what the total wins will be for ROY when it is all said and done.

Re: Roy Williams 500th Career Win

Now I know I'm old. I was on campus at the same time as Jordan, Worthy, Perkins. I'll let you do the math. To help you out, I went to college when I was 11.

I was born the year I think Worthy came in. Man you are old. Kidding.

Tell as many people as you can about this place. I want to get as many UNC fans as I can on here.

Re: Roy Williams 500th Career Win

I will but there are not that many UNC folks around here. You'd think I lived overseas when I'm just one state away in Virginia. A freind of mine sees more broadcasted games than I do!

Johnny t-shirt is a big Carolina store. I wonder if you could advertise on that site? Or the alum pages? Just a thought. Don't know if you had an actual budget or not.
